Iznik Tiles

The style of tile shown here dates back to the 16th century, and originates in the town of Iznik, a centre for ceramics in Turkey. Tiles such as these traditionally adorned Turkish architecture, and are representative of the cultural and artistic treasures of the Ottoman Empire. Tulips originated in Turkey, and were a common theme in Turkish art.
These tiles are a gift to the National Capital Commission, to the Tulip Capital of Canada and to all Canadians from the Iznik Foundation and the Turkish Embassy. Dedicated on May 8, 2002
Located on Sussex Dr, in Major's Hill Park.
